Roman's Journey and Military Service

From Bulldozer Operator to Marine Corps Hero

BEGINNINGS & MOTIVATION

Roman Hrybov was born in 1990 in Zolotonosha, Ukraine. After graduating from the Zolotonosha Vocational College in 2008, he worked as a bulldozer operator, but his passion for serving his country led him to pursue a military career. In 2018, Roman joined the Ukrainian Marine Corps, fulfilling his lifelong dream of serving in the military. His dedication and commitment quickly led him to the 35th Separate Marine Brigade, where he became a key member of Ukraine’s defense forces, contributing to the country’s fight for freedom and sovereignty.

MILITARY SERVICE

Roman’s dedication to his country was cemented during the Russian invasion in 2022, when he was stationed on Snake Island. Faced with a demand from Russian forces to surrender, Roman famously responded with the now-legendary words, “Russian warship, go f*** yourself.” This bold and defiant statement became an iconic symbol of Ukrainian resistance. His courage in the face of overwhelming odds demonstrated not only his personal bravery but also the unyielding strength of the Ukrainian spirit during the darkest days of the conflict.

Life After Captivity and Rehabilitation

Roman was captured by Russian forces and endured both physical and psychological torture, from Crimea to tent camps and prisons, where he was subjected to cruel treatment far worse than that of animals. Despite being forced to wear a prisoner's robe and enduring intense mental pressure, his spirit remained unbroken, and he never gave in. Roman's resilience during captivity, along with his bravery on Snake Island, showcased his unwavering commitment to Ukraine. His experiences stand as a powerful testament to the strength and endurance of the Ukrainian people in the face of overwhelming adversity.
