Romans's Journey and Military Service

From Heroic Service to Courageous Recovery

BEGINNINGS & COMMITMENT

Roman Ihorovych Chernenko was born and raised in Kharkiv, where he initially worked as a bartender. However, with the onset of the full-scale invasion in 2022, he felt a deep calling to serve his country. From the very first days of the war, Roman tried to enlist in the military, but due to delays, he was unable to join until six months later. In 2022, he finally succeeded and became part of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade 'Kholodnyi Yar,' serving as an anti-tank operator with an unwavering desire to defend Ukraine.

CHALLENGES & TRIALS

Roman was deployed to the frontlines near Bakhmut, where he proved his courage and unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s defense. As an anti-tank operator with the 93rd Brigade, he fought in some of the most intense combat zones, carrying out critical operations and supporting his comrades. In July 2024, Roman was severely wounded during a mission. His injuries led to the amputation of a limb, yet his dedication to Ukraine’s cause remained steadfast, and he remained determined to serve.

From Recovery to Aspirations

After being severely wounded, Roman was first sent to Dnipro, where local doctors amputated his limb to stabilize his condition. Once his health was stabilized, he was transferred to Lviv for further rehabilitation and to receive a prosthetic. During this time, Roman attended art therapy sessions, using painting as an emotional outlet. He painted his dream—racing in Formula 1. Along with his passion for motorsport, Roman also aspires to open his own business. After completing his rehabilitation, he returned home and remains determined to pursue both his dreams and a future full of possibilities.
