BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATION
Taras Malyarevych, originally a professional lawyer with a passion for photography and cinematography, made the life-changing decision to enlist in the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the very first day of the invasion in 2022. His deep sense of commitment to his country, combined with his diverse skills and background in the arts, motivated him to leave behind his successful career and take up arms to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty. Taras’s personal sacrifices reflect the dedication of many who put their passion aside to serve their homeland in times of crisis.
MILITARY SERVICE
Taras now serves in the ‘Achilles’ drone systems regiment, playing an integral role in Ukraine’s ongoing defense against aggression. Despite his background in the arts, his unwavering commitment to his country has kept him resolute in his military duties. His expertise in technology and determination in combat complement his artistic roots, and he continues to protect Ukraine with courage and perseverance. Through his service, Taras demonstrates that the call to defend one’s homeland transcends personal ambition, inspiring others to take action when the nation needs them most.
Serving with Artistry and Valor
Before the war, Taras was an accomplished photographer, cinematographer, yachtsman, and golf enthusiast, known for pioneering fashion and celebrity photography in Ukraine. He worked with top magazines and brands, building a successful career. However, with the war’s onset, Taras paused his career to serve Ukraine. Even as a soldier, he continues to pursue his passion for art, using his camera to capture the harsh realities of the war and document Ukraine’s resilience. Today, he fights on the frontlines while contributing his skills to portray the war’s impact and highlight the stories of those who serve.
